Are The Routines You Learn In DVDs Like The Ones You See In Music Videos And MTV?

There are many DVDs out there that teach routines similar to the ones you see in music videos on MTV and other music channels.

In fact many of these DVDs are by choreographers of music videos. The best thing to do is to read the back or description of the DVD to see what it's about.

If it's in the style of music videos, it will say so. You can usually find these in the jazz, hip-hop, street, street-jazz, urban and related genres DVDs.

These DVDs may have different levels or there may be routines of different difficulty on the same DVD.

It's never a bad idea to learn from DVDs of actual choreographers so you can get used to how they teach and they can tell you how to make the routines look good...because they know their own routines best!

While the moves may be similar at all levels, it will probably be the harder routines that will look more like the backing dancers that you see on TV. Top choreographers are used to choreographing routines for dancers of a professional standard.

You can find many DVDs in a music video style as long as you know what to look for as detailed above. The DVD title may not say 'MTV Moves' but if you read the description that should tell you enough information with which you can decide if it's for you.

Some of the bigger dance studios also have their own DVD series so if you're nervous about going to the studios, you can learn from a couple of DVDs first to get a feel for what you might learn in an actual class that you attend.

Also if you are looking to buy the DVDs online, don't forget that many DVDs have been reviewed by other buyers on sites such as Amazon so you can also get an idea if the DVD is any good.

There are different teachers with different styles and you'll probably find ones that you find easier to learn from and enjoy more than others.

So whip out those DVDs and start practising those moves, there's loads of other DVDs to get through as well!
