How Good Do You Have To Be To Learn Professional Dance Routines?

Even though professionals will usually be given a lot of rehearsal time to get the routines right, they will be expected to have them to a high standard already the first time they learn them.

You need to be at a very good standard to get yourself into this position where you are on board as a professional dancer at a project.

Any projects, shows or productions that need pro dancers will usually audition for them. This means you will be up against other pro dancers, some of the best around.

In order to get the job, you will need to impress above the other dancers in the eyes of those selecting the dancers.

In the audition it is very common for the choreographer to teach a section of a routine that you will actually be performing once you get the job.

What this effetively means is that you will have to be able to learn the routine more or less straight away at the audition as there will be other dancers and you can bet that many of them (or some of them if it's a really difficult routine) will get it.

Choreographers prefer to work with dancers that get it straight away. They like to work with good dancers. And then spend the rest of the time cleaning up the routine, making it look as good as possible.

If you can perform it to a good standard within half an hour of learning it, then it can only get better with 50 hours of rehearsal time right?

They may not expect you to get all the details straight away if they like your dancing, but they will normally choose dancers that have the routines and many of the details already.

So to learn professional dance routines as a job requires a high standard where you can do better than other pros on your day.

To get to this standard you need to regularly take part in professional or advanced dance classes at a professional dance studio.

This will put you in an environment where you learn difficult choreography and you are surrounded with other pro dancers, or dancers that plan to become pro.

If you're doing well in these pro level classes, you will probably have a shot at it when it comes to auditioning for pro roles.
