How Do The Professionals Learn Their Dance Routines?

When watching the routines of backing dancers or dance performances and they remember long, tricky routines you may wonder 'how do they do it?'

The truth is that they have so much practise at it that they are much better than the average dancer at picking up routines.

Also what's worth noting is that before any performance or gig that these dancers will be very well rehearsed.

They may begin rehearsing for just that one performance for weeks or even months before the date they are meant to be performing it.

All of this means that they have plenty of time to learn the routine, get them perfect and looking as slick as possible.

So usually they would not learn a whole 3 minute routine in just 1 hour. It would usually be much more spaced out than this.

Usually the choreographer will decide how much time they think they will need with the dancers for rehearsals or a show producer will give them a set amount of time to work with.

Rehearsals can be long hours because they need to deliver dancing performances of a high quality.

For a quick 3 minute performance the dancers could be rehearsing for 50 hours or more to get it right when it comes to the day.

So when professional do it, they learn it quick (because they are pros) and they spend the rest of the time going over it many times to get it looking the way they want it, with as few glitches as possible.
