How Do You Make Dance Routines?
Dance routines are not that tricky to make once you get into the hang of it. Before you begin it goes without saying you must be a competent dancer capable of moving to a good standard. If not the routines you make are unlikely to be any good either!
Assuming you're pretty comfortable with dancing the thing to remember with routines is you can't really go wrong so feel free to go where your ideas take you.
The best ideas come to you without you forcing them out. When beginning you might like to think what moves or sequences might go well together.
The best thing to do when starting is just to put on some music you like and then see what comes out. Don't expect every idea to be great when beginning, simply get into the habit of linking moves together.
Some people also like to begin by just freestyling to the music and from there letting their ideas develop. They might be freestyling and like an idea and decide to explore it further.
You may find it helpful to set yourself small tasks when starting out. For example set yourself a task to come up with 2 or 3 eights and then work to build some ideas that will last that long.
Don't be afraid to change the music either if you suddenly feel like dancing to a certain song. It may be there are ideas there about to ferment to the surface!
What you'll find is that when you begin you consciously have to think about which move will come first, which move will come next, and the next in a methodical manner.
However after a certain amount of time the music will just make the moves come out, and you will not be thinking systematically as you do it. And the routines will become the result of a more natural process.
So the important thing is to begin. Everyone has different methods but what they are all trying to do is create a routine that captures how they feel about a song.
